Pastoral Prayer - June 28th, 2015

Most Glorious God,

We are your children…we just love saying that.  If only the rest of the world could know what an amazing idea…what an amazing feeling that is.  We are the creations of the ultimate creator.  We are the loved ones of a power so far beyond our comprehension that we can’t begin to understand it ourselves.

So forgive us Jesus…forgive us when in our efforts to understand you, we made you small.  Forgive us when we have tried to make you like us instead of the other way around.  We admit, in wanting to see your face, we create images that look like us instead of you.  Help us to look away from those images…away from ourselves and look to you, because it is only through you that we can truly see ourselves and each other as you have intended.

Spirit…with our corrected vision, show us the people around us that you would have us intercede.  For those that we know, we lift their names to you…folks who are experiencing grief and loss…your sons that have lost the ability to eat, but who desperately need sustenance….your daughters recovering from life-giving surgeries.  We especially bring to you the young one’s that you placed in our stewardship.  Help us to communicate to them that the hope of the world, the chance of real hope and peace for their lives, is found in you and you alone.

So it is in this state of excitement and awe that we unite our voices together, ratifying on Earth something that already has already been ratified in Heaven, when we pray that prayer that Jesus taught us saying...

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
