Pastoral Prayer - February 22, 2015

Abba Father,

We have no words adequate enough to express how blessed we feel this day.  We look around and see sisters and brothers, people who not only share our faith in Jesus, but have shared our joys and sorrows as well.  Help us, Father, help us find ways to express our gratitude to you, to each other, and especially to those we don’t know and have nothing in common with. Help us bless your world with our words and deeds. Help us share the gospel of your love, as we welcome those who respond to it, and continue to love those that haven’t yet RSVP'd.

We thank you this day for the many answers to prayer we have already received and for the gift and miracles that modern medicine provide. We thank you for the faithfulness of family and friends, and for the support of others that appears to come out of left field in times of brokenness and pain. We thank you for those who extend themselves to help, who offer friendship, and who speak desperately needed words of wisdom, and hope, and love.

Hear our prayers today for those who need healing of body and of spirit. Bind up broken hearts and drive away disease. Bring peace to those who are suffering and patience to those who are learning to live with chronic illness.  Abba, heal and grow our faith so that even when we fail to see the fruit of our planted seeds, we may have the assurance that every inch of soil overturned will lead to a harvest someday.  Train us to be faithful, Lord, and teach us your ways so our lives may reflect you

Now Lord as you willed it, we come together as your one body with one voice, as we speak aloud the prayer your Son and our Savior taught us when we say….

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
